New York to Sturbridge and on to Maine

Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Was a good drive, not to far, and all went smoothly. The RV site was a little small, but we made it in, and all was good. A couple days here would be nice, as we do need a little time between travel days to make the trip just a little easier. Thought we might get time to go to Boston, but will have to wait till next time. Keep trying to put too much into a day, will learn to tone it down a little. We spent the day getting some laundry done, and finishing a few plans for our next stop, showers, and writing our blog from New York. Now out for a treat, shopping for some groceries, all takes time, and we do have to allow for this as we go.

Squeezed in a small site was not optimal

Chipmunks always entertaining

The RV park had a beauty pool, never swam in it, but did stick my toe in it, and the hot tub. was a nice place, just needed some investment, and management. We enjoyed our time there, and made plans where we would stop next, Pumpkin Patch RV in Maine was next on the plan.

Saturday we left early and drove past Boston, and through New Hampshire, to Maine, was a nice drive, longer than most, almost all the fuel 500 km's was a record on our 1 tank, 30 gallon fill this time. Polly and I got a little testy with each other a few times, was longer than we usually plan, but next 3 moves will be shorter, about 3-4 hrs. This makes for a better trip, have time to settle in, and enjoy the new place a little before we raise the jacks again.

This RV Park was just great, as soon as we drove in I could tell was a well organised and well run place. All was set when we got there, and we just rolled to our spot, and set up and were having a beer in less than 1/2 hour. I find out that many here live full time in there RV's, so we have something in common. Next day I find out another couple close to us are full timers too, and we talk for awhile in the morning about why, when, and how we got to be full time RV'rs. Was fun to learn and share stories about what we have encountered, as we have covered some of the same ground.

We didn't do much today, but good internet here made it so I could do this blog easily, with no extra cost, and make plans for Newfoundland, and our RV park, and where we will drive to daily till we get to Sydney, N.S. on Friday for our trip to the Rock. Ferry booked, and first night planned where to go, and after that will be in Newfoundland for 2 weeks. Found a reporting site for where all the icebergs are as they are tracked. Will head north to Gros Morne National park first,  will make a reservation today before we leave here today for 3 nights at Gros Morne Park.

Next we went for a drive to see Steven Kings house as it is something people do here. Was a beauty area, that many of the paper makers Senior Executives lived in in the past. This city was a huge logging, paper-making and potato producing area in the past. These Giant houses is where they lived. Polly, Bosco and I wandered the neighbourhood looking at what the past looked like, Wide roads, and huge homes were the order of the times, some are in disrepair now, but Steven Kings is in fine shape.

After this tour, we went to the casino for some lucky fun. Polly played, Bosco and I walked the town. We walked the river edge, and saw what was a busy river, with many dams in the past for the pulp industry. I am told by another dog walker that this has changed, the water is clean now, and the dams have been taken down, and the salmon are coming back. Still the remnants of industry are very evident on the banks, and docks that ships tied to are now walkways.

Bosco and I make a long walk around the fenced railway tracks, and back to the casino. I expect to go in and see Polly , but she is waiting in the truck. Not as lucky this time, but we go back in as I still have a ticket for some $, and we play for another hour, but come out with less than we went in with. Still a fun afternoon, and we make our way back home for leftovers, and a quiet night in  front of the TV. Too cool out for a night outside.

Today we have Bosco groomed here before we go to Saint John, NB for the night. Nice to have someone that will give Bosco a hair cut here in the park.

Loving the travel life here in Maine....
