Tired visitor's today.

Yesterday was day 3 of our New York City visit, we planned to Walk over the Brooklyn bridge as this was the warmest day of this week. 79°f or 26°c that's nice and warm. Although walking up the Manhattan side of the bridge was pretty darn warm, Polly said after about 10 minutes, should have brought water, and a hat. Reality of this adventure had struck, and I was thinking maybe too much for Polly.

I said we could go back, but no, not Polly. Her right knee a problem, my left knee a problem, we make quite a couple of gimps shuffling along amongst mostly younger, more able people. So many people, I didn't think there would be so many. We'd stop often, take a break, then after awhile there were benches, we'd had have a sit for awhile, then off we'd go again. Once we got to the half way point, was level walking then, made it a little easier. The center of the bridge walkway was all wood boards, made of teak or mahogany, weather proof kinda wood, all screwed down. Well done USA! 👍

The bridge towers were massive, also gave some welcome shade for us as we stopped for a rest. The lady selling fruit and water was a very good stop, we were on the last bit, heading down to the city of Brooklyn now. Down is even harder on our knees. Yep, we are feeling old now for sure, no skipping and jumping around, but we made it to the Dumbo area, some food trucks, a nice park on the water, a big carousel 🎠🎠, we didn't go on this time, too far to walk 😆.

We stopped at a place called "time out market" yep, we needed a time out, Polly always concerned about I should eat! So we went inside, and so many different places to eat here, and different ways to order. I tried to get the menu on my phone, but a no go, then after awhile I looked down the way, and darn if the didn't have a real menu up high. I ordered a bacon 🥓 cheese 🧀 burger 🍔, Polly she left, went to another place, got a scone, and a chi-latte something she's grown find of.

We sat outside, where we could see the Manhattan bridge,
with it's subway train going back and forth over it regularly. Watched others, and ate our lunch and rested. We were pretty beat by this time. I just looked up Dumbo, it's "Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass" LoL, I thought something special 🤣 now I know.

We didn't think too much of this place, we went to what I thought was a market of different vendors, but was only a grocery store. Well next we had to go back, so I asked a group of young people what was the best way to the other side, we were not about to walk back across. They suggested the ferry, which way I asked, and so good about showing us exactly which way to go.

Off to the ferry we went, not too far, but both of us kinda done for the walking. The ride was really nice, I wanted to see the city from the water sometime, and this was just right.

The ferry gave us a ride right to the place we wanted to continue our walk, well not exactly, about 8 more blocks to the rooftop restaurant/pub I planned to have dinner. The walk there wasn't too bad, but Polly was waining. When we did get there, of course no elevator, 3 floors up, stairs! I'm sure Polly was thinking "u shit, yer trying to kill me" but she made it up under duress, and we enjoyed a really nice dinner. Happy hour was on, and surrounded by young people, most just off work, yaking so intensely, was fun to listen to.

Polly & I enjoyed a cheese burger and a Heineken as well as very good conversation about what we saw, what we did, and what was next. The views from here looking towards the Empire State building were beautiful. Was really nice to just sit awhile and plan ahead. The Chrysler Building, we could take a look inside as next to Grand Central station where we'll catch our train home.

An Uber was my next plan as we left the pub, I searched and ordered one. This is my first time in New York getting and Uber, but we have used this service many times before. He came right to where we were, but on the other side of the street, I didn't understand why, he said where we were wasn't a good place to pick us up as a right turn, and needed to pickup on other side for safety.

All worked out great, to the Chrysler building we went, except the building was open door, but we were not aloud to tour it, only open to public 8am to 5 pm. Hmm, oh well another time then, so a short walk now to Grand Central station. Getting on the train went smoothly, got a nice big seat, and off we went to Croton Harmon, our destination. Oops, we both fell asleep, looking up I noticed our stop as we pulled out, ahh shit, we missed our stop 😳 what now, I thought maybe get a ride back with someone? What next!

Asking the conductor as he came by, he printed out a ticket for the train going the opposite direction, we got off at the next stop, and crossed over on the platform, and not long and we were back to Croton Harmon station. Weef, that was close, thought was big trouble, but the conductor said, happens all the time. Well a first for us, Polly almost never falls asleep, was a real shocker for us.

Once we got home, we both not long to bed, what a day! Today Polly says take a day off, will see I'm thinking a Broadway show be our rest day today. See how it goes. I'm just about over the cold I got in Quebec, Polly thinking she might be getting it now? I sure hope not.

Having a home to go back to, our own bed, and just a place we call home, where ever we are, gives us security knowing it's here when we are finished, and tired.

Today will likely be a rest day, see how Polly's feeling as the morning goes. Good place for a walkabout for me anyway, beautiful place to stay here at Croton Park campground.

Loving this way of touring a city,
 Love our life ❤️
