New Iberia to New Orleans at Pontchartrain Landing RV Resort

What the heck is that Bosco says

From Port Arthur to New Iberia we had a good trip, and Cajun RVera RV Park has changed hands, now the parish (Louisiana is the only state in USA to have parishes instead of county's) has taken it over as part of there recreation department. Huge park with almost no one there, and a really big pool that has a river along side it which was fun to go around in without and effort, except keeping afloat. We planned to go to the Tabasco factory on Avery Island, but were too late that day, so we stayed home, and went for a swim instead.

Maybe if I don't look I'll will be OK

Polly and I arrived Tuesday afternoon after an interesting ride from New Iberia. The roads in New Iberia area are going to get some updating, but all the cement roads are uneven now, I think ground flooding has done it. All I know is we went down the road from I-10 to New Iberia to our RV Park, and when we left in the morning we did same Lump, Lump, Lump... till we got past the cement highway, and onto pavement. Was quite an experience as we felt the trailer bucking to the point of having to slow down to gain control.

Visitor centre when you cross into Louisiana

Louisiana was much different than Texas we noticed right away. More flooded areas, and less dry farming lands, bridges over much of the land as water most places called bayou. Graveyards above ground that looked so full as cement and rock to put people in above ground. The cactus seemed to disappear fast, and the trees were more plentiful, and taller, and many poor lifestyles as we went through the neighbourhoods. Yes we have noticed a difference, and in the city we notice the disrepair of many buildings, may be from the hurricanes in the past. Some places we notice the poor people are the norm, and disrepair and poor run hand in had.

Our RV Park, Pontchartrain Landing was in an old industrial area, on the edge of Pontchartrain lake, and we did wonder if was the best decision, as getting into it was a real bumpy road in some disrepair, but after we got to the park and was a real nice place to park. Gravel with grass sites, not as fancy as some but we do like the location, not noisy and a shuttle to town 3 times a day, with a bar and restaurant here too. Pool is cool, but nice when hot like we have had, and hot tub too. Close to the store for goods, and fuel.
After we get set up, I go for a swim, Mmm nice, then after meeting some people from Edmonton, I get back to the trailer, dry off, and off we go to get another traveller.

Polly’s sister Lyn is at the airport, and we drive to pick her up with some trouble with the phone we had as we have been using it as our GPS since the garmin has had some trouble with finding the correct address sometimes. The Phone though ran out of power on the way to the airport, so we missed the turn, took us a little longer, but was all good. Polly plugged it in, and punched in the new directions. Got Lyn at the departures as was an easier place to pick her up, some more learning here. Her and Polly were so happy to see each other, me I was happy to see Lyn too, but wanted out of this airport traffic, and back to our RV Park. Was a nice evening talking about our travels, and Polly and Lyn’s Mom, Memere and her going into the hospital, and what may come next for her. Different being away when thing happen beyond our control.
We had a nice dinner of chicken stuffed with boudin, a sausage with rice that is common here in the south, recommended by Spud Brown, Lee Ann’s husband, sure was good.
Wednesday and our first time taking the shuttle to town, and all worked out good, met people from all over Canada and USA as we talked before we got on and once we were on our way. Many pieces of info for us to check out, and the shuttle was a good choice to use first time. The driver has a dog named? And we all got a good sniff after we got on as she came around for a check, I thought for food, but she wanted a pet too.
We had a great time in town for our first time, got many pictures, and saw many new sites, smells, and tastes of food. More to come as we go, all will be from the French Quarter, as that is where we will concentrate at first.

We spent some time, and money in the Harrah’s Casino Thursday as rain kept us from walking around to start, we booked an Uber for the first time, and this was a success as we didn’t really know what we were doing. All worked out, and we got a tour from the best driver. Then walked toward the French Quarter as we came out, and stopped by Jackson Square, and
iSaint Frances Church and Polly and Lyn lit a candle for there dad and Fred Schmidt. Then went by the french market, but was less than before as was rain day, so less stuff to look at, OK though as the girls donated at the casino for the cause. Then to Bourbon Street in the late afternoon, what a show that was. Some people were reall pushy to get a buck from you, didn't turn me on. Dinner late then home, what a fun time. Saturday is Swamp tour and will stay later for a look at what goes on on French street. Saturday should be fun, Grave yard walk today, yes we are being good little tourists here, but do want to see what we can of this city while here.

Oops we decided to stay put today. Went and got a few groceries, and then spent the day at the pool, then cards and a nice warm afternoon close to the trailer. Polly and I will see the graveyard when Lyn is home.
Loving it here in Louisiana, with our wayward travel assistant!
