Sunday Night and all's well, till....

Wow what a night! Another lesson learned...

We knew a storm was headed our way, they seem to take awhile to get here, but when they do wow what a blast. First the wind started, and was forecast to keep blowing through the night, and it looked as if we wouldn't get and rain, but sometime in the night we had heavy wind, and that woke us all up, we had all the windows open as the air was warm and humid and was hard to keep cool early in the evening, and wanted the air conditioner off. Finally got back to sleep, and then rain, like pouring right fast. Close all windows was the mission, and Polly went into action fast. soon hatches were battened down, and we rode out this storm. Our phone has alerts popping up, SEVERE WEATHER, TORNADO WATCH, FLOOD WARNING, Wholly crap I think, now what? Well can't run and hide here, could pile in the truck and head for cover under a bridge, or overpass. No, will just stay here and hunker down in the trailer.

What went over us
Now is over Mississippi

Lightning was almost steady. Flashes were so often was like turning on and off the lights, but much brighter. This time less thunder crashes close, just more lightning.

Finally about 1-2 hours later the crashing stops, and quiet, except the sound of dripping outside off the roof of the trailer. Yep, What a night. Was our worst as was at night, and last one was worse during the day.

Learning this time is don't leave the windows open when we go to bed and storm is forecast, turn on AC if needed, just no windows open. Too much to get wet, and some like the laptop may suffer next time. Got wet this time, but still OK.

Today not sure what we will do. Lyn leaves tomorrow early, and would like to have one last Hurrah, as yesterday Polly made dinner ahead in the crock pot, curried chicken, then we drove to the river boat Casino, but no big deal. Was a nice drive there, and did see a little more of the shoreline of the lake, and a wide walkway like we remember the Mallecon in Cuba, but cleaner and no wall to stop you from seeing the lake. Maybe go for a walk there today.

Treasure Chest Casino on a paddle wheeler was fun, but the boat took the money

Beauty big chandeliers in the boat

We did notice all the huge gateways that protect the city from flooding, with many gates all around the lake to stop the water from entering the city when a hurricane comes, as they know it will sometime for sure. Amazing place this New Orleans, actually all the south along the gulf of Mexico. The wind and water are great, and a true hazard to this area. They have managed for years, but now they have more protection that ever, Gates, Dykes, Pumps, and yet they know it's always possible the dam will burst. Kinda like where we live on Vancouver Island, always knowing an earthquake could do us much damage, but not to worry, will deal with that when it happens. I understand why people stay, it is a beautiful area to live, and much to do and see, as well as such a warm, lush, green, beautiful area. But when the weather makes a change, you do feel like sitting ducks, nowhere to run is how it felt last night, just glad we were in our trailer, dry, warm, and somewhat safe.

Still loving it here in New Orleans, while we dry out the trailer.

Bosco sees someone outside talking on her phone, Grrr Grrr Bosco, Quiet... Grrr, Grrr.

OK, Back to sleep...
Time to take him out for a stroll, more fun to be had this morning..
