Last
day in Pismo we spent on the beach. Loaded people, dogs, chairs,
beer, and a few snacks and headed for the beach. Haven’t taken a
car on the beach for years, and the sign says 4X4 recommended. I have
4X4, but many cars come on without. Is an odd feeling as people drive
all over, like they have instantly forgotten rules of the road, cross
in front of you, pass on wrong side, just felt free, and weird at the
same time. The sand did feel mushy underneath my wheels, but never
stuck, stayed above where the water came up to. We toured the south
end of the beach, where the quads were permitted as far as a small
creek, and then drove as far north as we could, where the dogs could
get a walk in without a leash. Went as far as visitor centre, no
cars past here. We walked to North Beach Campsite, which was closed,
and walked up close to the dunes. Carole was surprised how much it
had changed in a few months as water had taken away much of the
foreground sand at the edge of the beach. Been allot of rain here
over the last months, causing much concern.
Now
we walk back to the truck, Polly & I pickin at what we see on the
shoreline, saving a few rocks, and the dogs just enjoying the
freedom. John and I break out the chairs while the girls go up to the
visitor centre for a pee. We all settle into a warm afternoon yak,
and a few peanuts with our beer, just what was planned. Sun wasn’t
steady, but warm enough to loose my shirt for awhile. As we talk a
few horses with riders come by us, and then a couple huge horses
Clydesdale's with big long manes and long hair on there legs too,
beautiful looking. After a couple hours we pile back in the truck and
head for the campsite. Carole and Karlee “Pita” (pain in the ass
John calls her) walk back. We make a stop at the camp host’s site,
and get a few armloads of wood, and John starts a fire when we get
back.
Nap
time, I’m getting used to this part of the day. When I wake the
fire is going nicely, and we have a few more beer, and start talking
about the depart tomorrow. The new neighbours, a young couple from
Wyoming move in he puts up the tent, and we watch as we talk, and his
girlfriend/wife directs. He did a good job, tent looks good, then he
walks over to introduce himself, Woof Woof, he backs up, but doesn’t
seem to be bothered by Karlee, Hmm I think, not to bright. They want
to know where to shop, so Polly tells them Vons, and off they go. As
John and I talk Politics, Carole is busy getting everything packed,
and ready for tomorrow, as they will leave early, 8am. She is like a
busy bee, here and there just so much getting ready, even gets John
to help me with the big mat we have down, good she did as rained in
morning as we were getting ready to go. Was good to be packed up and
ready, Thanks Carole. Polly now in the trailer cookin something, or
reading her book, or both.
Just
before dinner the new campers next to us come home, and he proceeds
to light the fire, dark now
he
has BBQ briquettes and is dumping the whole bag in the fire pit, and
puts on the liquid gas and lights it, then more gas, and more gas,
Now I am wondering about this guy? Then after awhile he comes over
again, Karlee was inside this time, and asks us if we like poetry?
Kinda stunned, he explains it is a new kinda poetry. Hmm what to say,
how about after dinner I say, we are just about to eat.
We
had a nice dinner, spicy chicken, salad, ? ? I can’t remember
everything, was good anyway. We never did go back out to the fire,
just sat inside the trailer and yakked till we all agreed bedtime.
Morning
came and we were all ready to go, so coffee and we started with the
truck, and John and Carole were off early like planned. Reminded me
of when they left our subdivision in Ladysmith, in the motor home and
off they went. See you in 6 months!
Lovin
life...
