Yuma, here we are!
Our trip here was
much easier to navigate, we were better prepared. We made a
reservation the day before at Fortuna De Oro RV Resort east side of
Yuma, we fuelled up the truck without the trailer on the day before,
We contacted Don and Chris Wutke to make sure we were headed to the
right place. We got directions from Star, camp host at Leaping Lizard
RV Ranch. Polly made sandwiches ahead for lunch, as I got the truck
washed (Not too good, minerals in the water so didn’t rinse good,
was like the soap had dried before I rinsed. Another learning curve)
and the trailer hooked up. Polly punched the address in our GPS, and
off we went. Highway wasn’t too busy, and travel was relaxed.
We stopped at a rest
stop about an hour out away from our destination, still in
California, with sand dunes right beside it and sand buggies racing
around on it. Was a minimal rest stop, with enough room for a pit
stop, but services not to clean. A pee,(Bosco) too, sandwiches, and a
drink, a short snooze, and off we go again.
Directions were
good, and we got to Fortuna De Oro and checked in at about 4pm,
parked and set up with help from Don and Polly, just in time for
happy hour! Nice... Sat and had a beer with the Crew, Don and Chris
Wutke, Rob and Dawn Newton, and Larry and Linda Tyler. Was a nice
welcome, took some time to get re acquainted, and get a little
familiar with our new surroundings.
Now we have to shop,
so off we go to Walmart with directions. This went well, and we got
back with our bags of goodies, and rushed through dinner so we could
go for a walk with Don and Chris. Looks like a big place, with much to do,
2 pools, games to play, dances, card nights, and much more. After the
tour, we came back, and seemed like no power to our trailer, so Polly
and I read for awhile, had lights from our batteries, and went to bed
early.
Next day off to the
office to pay, and ask about the power prob. Got the guy to come and
look, he turned the switch on and Voila, Power... Should have
rechecked, but learning again. The girls went to water aerobics and
Don and I went to the RV store, to get a few things. Before we even
get in the store Don spots a car and we go take a look. Wow does this
ever look cool, a Polaris that has only one rear wheel. We have a
talk with the guy about it, and learn about this cool car. The guy says as we are about to leave, "We love you guys from Canada coming here, nice to have you come stay here with us." Was nice to hear, then we got political, and don't want to go there. Into the RV store...
After looking
around, and buying very little we head home for lunch and a beer, now
some BS in the warm sun, talk about what our plans are, what we will
do next, and where we plan to go. Then the girls go shopping, and we,
the boys go for a walk around the resort, we walk past many different
RV's, with comments on some, and comparisons, what we liked and what
we didn’t. Then a shortcut to the Tennis courts, no one playing,
and Pickle ball courts, a few playing here. On to the Shuffle board
and Boccie areas. We stop and play a game of Shuffle board, and
Don and Larry beat Rob and I by a small amount, then we head over to
the Boccie and Larry and I team up, but Don and Rob wax us by 4
points. Was a nice tour, and we headed back for happy hour, girls
still shopping.
We yakked for a
couple hours, and girls got home, with much vegetables and fruit, as
well as a few other things. They joined in for happy hour, and told
us of there day. Sun going down, wind coming up, so out comes the
propane fire, and we stayed out later, and it helped to keep us warm
while we joked and talked later in the evening. Dinner without a walk that night,
and another early night.
Saturday Morning we
wake to a beautiful day. Warm and still, we move a little slower this
morning, was a busy day yesterday, water aerobics at the pool wore Polly out a little, sore
arms she says. Today I decide time to sort out some of the stuff I
have stored under the desk, and behind the TV, just get these areas
sorted out. Funny how this energy comes on. I get it all tore apart,
and I see Don get out and sit in one of the fire circle chairs, and I
say to Polly, I’ll be back to get this sorted out, and off I go. A
yak with Don, always worth it, not long after Rob comes over, then
Larry, and we have a good ole chin wag, got to love the laid back way
we are living. I did get back to the trailer, and Polly and I talked
about shelves, and changes, but for now just stuffing things where we
can will hold us over till we get back to the Island, and stay in one
place for awhile.
The Crew was going
to out to dinner tonight, we had dinner planned so stayed home.
Before dinner I text Cathy Noel and Doug Coburn, who left the island about the
same time as us and said to look em up. Text comes back, where you
at? Fortuna De Oro, I text, again, text comes back, you are just
across the highway from us. We were going out for a few things, so
said we would meet up with them, and went to there RV spot, and had a
visit with them. They had booked into a lot in a subdivision with one other couple
where they had all services, but no big overhead, so much less that
where were were to stay. Was nice to see Doug, and Cathy again, been
awhile. Doug offers up a beer , and we sit outside along side there
huge bus. Didn’t take long and Cathy and Polly pulled there chairs
together, and wow Yak Yak, and Doug and I same, much to yak about. Short visit, we
made plans to go to Mexico Monday, and we had to make or way back for
dinner before the dance.
Saturday Night we
went to the dance, starts at 7 ends at 10, first time to a dance that
the band starts at 7pm. Polly and I are a little late, as dinner took
time, Shish-kabobbs and rice, I could eat them everyday. Another
beauty dinner, with some of the cheep (but good) wine we have been buying here
in the Walmart.
Got dressed up a little, and off we went, to the
north hall. Could hear the music outside, and when we got in found
the crew, and sat down. Beers went down good, and music sounded good,
we danced a few good ones, and the a few more, was a fun night. I
noticed that many people seemed to be just going through the motions,
dancing with no hmm... Wow! Polly and I still having WOW, and same
with the rest of the crew, I decided this is because we are still
truly alive, not just going through the motions. Life has WOW, and
you always need that to truly live, my opinion Eh!
Lovin life here in
Yuma...
