Trinity Newfoundland

We arrived at our campsite Cabot Hi-Way Cabins & RV Park, always a bit of a mystery when you look online for an RV park. Never know for sure what it will be like. The woman who checked us in was very friendly, just busy with life too. She lived in a town away from here, so had hours that were not same every day, this kinda made me think "What if we need someone about a problem here", but we made the booking, and she gave us  an option of two nice sites by the lake as we would call it, here they often call them ponds. Quiet day to setup as not the weekend yet, Friday afternoon June 16th, Penny's Birthday. We do keep track of the birthdays as we travel, helps we have it on a calendar to keep us on track, if we look at it.

After we get all setup we take off for Trinity, a place we wanted to see and was close to us as later in the day now.

As we drove into town

Trinity is a well organised town

We both liked how this hole in the rock looked by the bay

Bosco asks, Does this say "Pee here?"

One of many buildings close to the water that fish were traded in in the past

Trinity East

Trinity is and old fishing village with much history as all here has, here though there were cannons to protect the harbour from other nations, and there were many attacks over the years as this was a hub for trade from all around this area of Newfoundland. We drove into town, and through a few streets to look around, then parked and walked around to get a good feel for the place. First we went around the town and down to the water, looking at what was there, we found many birds fishing like crazy, looked like seagulls but are Turns I was told, and they are fast, and dive into the water to get there fish.

Spotted and on his way

Body all in water, but wings still out, fantastic
Spotting the fish
Intent on the prey all the way...

We walked past a few old buildings and then got to a trail that would take us to the top of the hill, I said to Polly lets just walk a little way along, and she was OK with it, then as the trail wound around the mountain, she was getting a little puffed out, but she and Bosco made there way up, and we got a beauty view of the town and harbour, and the lighthouse on the other side. Now we have another place to see as this captured Polly's interest, mine too. We had a short rest up top, and learned that this was called Gun Hill, as cannons were here to protect the harbour from invaders. We walked down past and old graveyard, we looked at the graves, and not as old as we had thought, some were buried with just wood crosses, no date.

The beach as we walk slowly toward the hill...

Polly walking so happily along the trail, "Where are you taking me?"
Entrance to the harbour in the background.

We don't have to go all the way up Polly just a little farther, K

We made it...

Now a good look at what the gun is pointed at

And we went all the way up here for what?

Beauty view from the top.

As we got down and started looking in town, I saw a piece of interesting hardware and my dear wife tried it on for size. Public trashing was popular at the time here I would guess, no TV then.

Polly is such a good sport! Wheres the whip?

Next we made our way into the Blacksmiths building, and were treated to a show of how it was done years ago, and what the shop looked like. the two guys were very interesting to talk with, and yes we could bring Bosco in. We talked for a few minutes, long enough to get directions to a new to the area craft brewery, and that was our next stop after the lighthouse we wanted to see on the other side. As we left I said to one of the men, join us there when you are finished work, he said "No, if I was to go there I would be there for the night!" liked is beer hey.

Sure Bosco can come in...

This is the guy that steered us to the good brewpub.

We wandered around a little more, and then off to the lighthouse.

Was a rough winding road, and glad we had 4 wheel drive, made it a little easier to get up the rough hills. As we made our way along we realised that we got a great view of the town of Trinity from here as a bonus. The Lighthouse was closed as was after 5 now, Polly would not go past the gate, but me, I went to the top of the hill, and got a good idea of what they would have seen many years ago, and why this was such a desired harbour. All was guarded from the sea here, was a great natural place to be protected.

On our way to the lighthouse we see this place with a huge rock face behind it,
and look close and we see paintings.

Paintings on the rocks is something that people sometimes do, but this was WOW!

Looking fortified with the pointed log posts

Other side of the light was rugged coast

one small iceberg here

Looking at Trinity across the bay.

We see these often around the coast, not sure why?

I walked down after a few pictures, and off we went to find that brew pub on the other side of the bay in a town called Port Rexton, as the directions were, turn off at the intersection, and go down the road first right, and across from the church... We found it, and did have a couple small glasses of beer, served in 1/2 pint jars. Good beer made here, and even had dinner at the cheese sandwich wagon just opened beside the pub. Was a nice way to end our visit to Trinity.

We sat at a big table and met a couple of brothers and there girlfriends that were here for a night, walked a trail today, and would go back to Saint Johns tomorrow, they were also holidaying, one brother was from Edmonton, just back to say hi to all, and this was a break from the visiting family while here. they were fun, and we had a good talk with them.

Now home to our camp by the lake in time for a beer and a few pics of the sundown.

End of another beauty day

Early next morning

Life is good here in Newfoundland by the water, almost everywhere you go.
Loving this life...
